Logifruit's commitment to society has been present since its foundation, to achieve a balance between social welfare, environmental protection and economic growth. The Board of Directors is aware that companies, in addition to ensuring good corporate governance within their organizations, must also support better global governance by: modeling ethical leadership within their organizations; addressing inequities and injustices in their supply chains; and partnering with government, civil society and others to strengthen institutions, laws and systems, nationally and internationally.
This commitment is needed today, more than ever. In the midst of the global pandemic context, the United Nations has seen a decline in international cooperation and a convergence of global crises. From climate change to economic uncertainty and racism, these crises are compounded by increasing misinformation around the world.
In response to this moment of disruption and uncertainty, Logifruit decided to endorse the campaign launched by the United Nations Global Compact, asking the CEOs of the entities that have signed up to the initiative to show their support for peace and security, human rights and sustainable development. In this way, it seeks to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and the 20th anniversary of the UN Global Compact by signing the Business Leaders' Declaration for a Renewed Global Partnership.
It is essential to integrate sustainability into the company's operations so that the commitment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals is translated into action. The statement includes more than 1,000 firms from companies of all sizes and sectors. On a national level, Spain has participated with 183 signatory companies, which represents 17% of the total, making our country the biggest supporter of the initiative.
The spirit of multilateralism gave birth to the United Nations. This declaration tells society that businesses support this spirit. For the sake of our planet and its people, now more than ever, we urgently need to promote genuine and courageous leadership and renewed global cooperation.
